[History]
On New Year's Eve of 2000, A fleet of Braniac's ships attempted to invade Earth, with the combined strength and effort of seven individuals (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman) They managed to intercept and halt the incoming attacks, the government then recognized them as heroes and was subsequently backed by the United Nations to continue their operations. They were first recognized as the "Super Seven" coined as a joke name by Barry Allen, then later as the "Super Friends" before finally settling with the name that we have now.
The JLA later decided to expand their ranks in the following years, with membership needing to be vouched or nominated by any member of the league, with the backing of at least 2-3 founding members. League expansion every year has only been limited to 5-7 nominations per year as per tradition and to keep things simple.
